About this tour
The Maratakka River flows through the district of Nickerie, in the north-west of Suriname. This winding river is an ideal place to observe animals in their natural environment.
During a visit you have a chance to see manatees, giant otters and impressive toucans up close. This is also the place to admire the stunning blue-and-yellow macaw in Suriname. Together with an experienced guide you experience the nature, the adventure and the special animals that cross your path.

Programme
Day 1
On day one you leave Paramaribo for Wageningen. On the way you enjoy a nice breakfast while already catching a glimpse of the beautiful nature along the route, a foretaste of what is still to come. Around noon we arrive in Wageningen and sit down for a tasty lunch.
We then board, and the real adventure begins: by boat we head up the Nickerie River, in search of the best wildlife such as the toucan, giant otters, the manatee and much more. After the boat trip it is time to have dinner and prepare our sleeping place in the indigenous village of Post Utrecht. We end the evening with a night boat trip to spot the nocturnal animals on and along the river.
Day 2
Early in the morning we take the boat to explore the Maratakka River. On the boat we have breakfast together so that we can spot as many beautiful animals as possible. Towards noon we look for a place to moor and have lunch together. After lunch there is room to relax for a while. After this it is time to return to Paramaribo.
