About this tour
Jaw Jaw is a Maroon village in the Upper Suriname area. The Maroons are descendants of enslaved Africans who managed to escape during the colonial period and built their own communities in the interior.
Jaw Jaw is inhabited by Saramaccans, who are known for their rich traditions, music and rituals. Daily life takes place largely in close connection with nature, with agriculture and hunting playing an important role in making a living.
The villages in this region each have their own cultural customs and history. Because of their remote location, many traditions and ways of life have been well preserved over the years.
During your stay various activities are possible. The longer you stay, the more activities you can experience and combine.
