About this tour
On this adventurous trip we visit the impressive Blanche Marie Falls, the historic railway and the indigenous village of Apoera.
More than 300 kilometres south-west of Paramaribo, in the middle of the Bakhuis Mountains, lie the majestic Blanche Marie Falls. This is one of the largest waterfalls in Suriname and is known for its enormous volume of water. The waterfall is more than 120 metres wide and is located in the beautiful high forest: the most pristine type of tropical rainforest in Suriname.
The area around the falls is rich in flora and fauna. During the trip there is a chance to spot various animal species, including no fewer than eight species of monkeys and more than 200 species of birds. Giant otters, tapirs, armadillos and sloths also live here. With a bit of luck, even rare big cats can be spotted.
After the visit to the Blanche Marie Falls we continue to the indigenous village of Apoera. Here we visit, among other things, the old train station and enjoy the view over the beautiful Corantijn River.

Programme
Day 1
Early in the morning we leave Paramaribo for the indigenous village of Apoera. On the way we get to know the beautiful landscape of West Suriname. On arrival in Apoera there is time to settle in calmly and explore the surroundings. In the evening we enjoy a delicious meal together, after which there is time to chat and relax.
Day 2
The day starts with a fresh breakfast. We then take a walk through Apoera, where you learn more about the village and its surroundings. After lunch we visit the old railway, better known as the railway "from nowhere to somewhere". This historic railway was built for the bauxite industry and is now a remarkable sight in the middle of the rainforest.
After visiting the railway we continue past the indigenous villages of Washabo and Klein Kwamalasamutu. In both villages we take a village walk and get to know the culture and traditions of the local residents, including the Trio and Arawak communities. There is also an opportunity to buy local souvenirs and handmade products.
After the activities we continue our journey towards Blanche Marie.
Day 3
After a hearty breakfast we start a beautiful forest walk towards the impressive Blanche Marie Falls. On the way the guide tells you more about the special flora and fauna of the area, and there is a chance to spot various animals and bird species.
