About this tour
Gunsi is an authentic village on the Upper Suriname River, a place where peace and culture come together. From Paramaribo you travel to Atjoni in about 3.5 hours, after which you reach Gunsi within an hour by traditional korjaal.
On arrival you immediately see the beautiful lodges of the Tei Wei Resort, which means "find rest". Behind the resort lies the village of Gunsi, where the local residents live and you are welcomed with their warm hospitality and authentic Saramaccan culture.

Programme
Day 1
In the morning we leave Paramaribo for Atjoni, where we have lunch. From Atjoni we go by korjaal to Gunsi. On the way you can enjoy a beautiful view over the Suriname River. On arrival we check in at the Tei Wei Resort, after which we enjoy a delicious local snack.
After this you can take a refreshing dip in the river and enjoy the rapids. In the afternoon we take a village walk through the village of Gunsi and meet the local residents. After the walk a delicious authentic dinner is served. The first evening is all about relaxation.
Day 2
We start the day with a delicious breakfast, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the river. After this we take a walk through the jungle and discover medicinal plants and the local wildlife.
After the walk we relax in the rapids, in a hammock or on your balcony and enjoy the serenity. In the afternoon we enjoy a local lunch with typical Surinamese flavours. After lunch we visit Nieuw Aurora, a historic transmigration village, and learn more about life there.
End the day with a tasty dinner, followed by a cosy campfire with stories, jokes and riddles.
Day 3
After breakfast we pack our things and get ready for the return journey to Atjoni. In Atjoni we have lunch together, after which we return to Paramaribo.
